Dr. Sunil Kumar Singla is an accomplished academician and researcher with an extensive career in Electrical & Instrumentation Engineering. With over 25 years of experience, he has made significant contributions to both education and research in areas such as biometric security, control engineering, and digital technologies. Dr. Singla is currently serving as the Professor and Head of the Department of Electrical & Instrumentation Engineering at Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (TIET), Patiala, where he plays a key role in coordinating academic and research activities, as well as overseeing laboratory developments.

His academic journey began with a Bachelor of Technology in Instrumentation Engineering from Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering & Technology (SLIET), followed by a Master of Engineering in Instrumentation & Control Engineering from the Technical Teacher’s Training Institute, Chandigarh. He completed his Ph.D. in 2011 at Thapar University, with research focused on biometric security solutions for human authentication. Dr. Singla continued his academic progression by earning a Master of Technology in Computer Engineering in 2022.

Dr. Singla has published over 50 research papers in renowned international journals, especially in the fields of artificial intelligence and control systems. His research on biometric security solutions has been recognized for its quality, receiving an A grade from all examiners. He has also been honored with several prestigious awards, including the Young Faculty Research Fellowship from the Ministry of Electronics & IT, Government of India, and the Dr. S.P. Luthra Memorial Gold Medal.

In addition to his research, Dr. Singla has secured funding for several research projects, with support from organizations like the UGC, CSIR, and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. His expertise extends to biometrics, image processing, virtual instrumentation, and road safety systems, with notable contributions to multi-biometric authentication systems and defogging technologies for enhanced road safety.

Beyond his research, Dr. Singla is a dedicated educator, having taught a variety of courses, including digital signal processing, control systems, and instrumentation system design. He has also organized numerous workshops and conferences on topics such as IoT, industrial automation, and biomedical engineering, and has delivered over 20 invited talks and expert lectures at institutions across India.
